Bosco Moranzani

Italia
Mira (VE)

A former intensively used agricultural area that will become the first forest in Italy designed to be accessible and inclusive.

In the municipality of Mira (Venice – Italy), right at the end of the Brenta Cycleway, bordered by the river, Bosco Moranzani is being created: the first forest in Italy designed to be accessible and inclusive.

What was once an intensive agricultural area, growing corn and soybeans, is in fact becoming a multifunctional green lung, which is part of the project “Dal centuriato romano alla Riviera del Brenta: riforestazione, riqualificazione e fruibilità”, funded by the Italian Ministry of Ecological Transition.

This unique woodland was created thanks to the collaboration between our team and the Emma Onlus Foundation, the forest owner, which promotes accessibility and frequentation of the lagoon context of the city of Venice in an inclusive and sustainable manner. Therefore, during the planning phase, services and activities were devised so that everyone could be welcome in the new forest. In the following years, the area will give the opportunity also to disadvantaged people and people with disabilities to experience the forest.

The project – made possible also thanks to the support of Volksbank, which believed in the initiative from the outset – envisages the planting of 5300 trees, the project includes the creation of wetlands and trails with social, educational and research purposes.
